Attention all Torres del Paine visitors!  Would you like to see a large part of the national park in just one day, enjoy stunning views of the Paine Massif from several lookouts, and finish the day with a unique boat ride near ancient glacial ice?  If your answer is yes—and we’re willing to bet it is—we’re excited to let you know, it’s all just a van ride away.

That’s right!  One of our most popular excursions is the Full Paine-Grey Glacier excursion.  As the name suggests, it’s a comprehensive experience of everything Torres del Paine has to offer—including a visit to the icy wonders of Lake Grey.  In this blog, we’ll take you through all the details of one activity that should definitely be on your itinerary while staying at Hotel Las Torres—a tour designed to help you see a lot without too much effort.

Want to know more about the excursion?

At Hotel Las Torres, we offer a wide range of activities, including horseback riding, cultural experiences, treks and van-based tours. Full Paine falls into this last category.

Early in the morning, a friendly bilingual guide will walk you through everything you’ll see during the day.  Then, the adventure begins aboard a van that will take you to each must-see destination along the route.

One of the great things about this tour is that it’s ideal for guests with limited mobility or families traveling with small children—the van will comfortably take you through the southern part of the park, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking scenery from your window.

Which lookouts will you visit?

Throughout the excursion, you’ll make frequent stops to step out and enjoy sweeping views of Patagonia from various lookouts.

Stops include Puente Negro, Nordenskjöld Lookout, Sarmiento Lake Lookout, Lake Pehoé and Salto Grande Waterfall. Each offers unique perspectives of the Paine Massif, giving you the chance to take stunning photos of the park’s iconic geological features.

One of our favorites, the Nordenskjöld Lookout, provides a postcard-perfect view of Los Cuernos. Many visitors stop here to capture breathtaking shots—but don’t worry, the lookout is spacious, so there’s always room for you to get that perfect photo.

What is the boat ride like?

The grand finale of this experience is a scenic boat trip on the icy waters of Lake Grey, taking you up close to the incredible Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

After visiting the stunning viewpoints and natural landmarks along the route, the van will bring you to the trail that leads to Grey Beach.  From there, it’s a short, easy walk along the lakeshore to where the catamaran awaits.

Once aboard, you’ll be able to sit back, relax and take in the awe-inspiring views of towering icebergs and the majestic glacier ahead.  Whether you’re on deck with fellow travelers or quietly reflecting inside the cabin, this is an unforgettable experience with nature at its most raw.

What if I don’t want to take the boat ride?

If you prefer not to sail the lake, there are still incredible ways to enjoy the area.  You can spend time at Grey Beach, relax and listen to the waves lapping the shore and enjoy the quiet, peaceful surroundings.

For those feeling a bit more adventurous, a short walk will take you to a peninsula near the catamaran departure point.  Here, you can experience the rocky terrain rich in native vegetation and enjoy a scenic hike.

Since the peninsula is not heavily visited, once the boat departs, you’ll likely have the place all to yourself.  At the far end, one of the park’s most tranquil and intimate lookouts offers sweeping views of the lake and the distant glacier—a truly special moment to connect with the wild beauty of Patagonia.

How long is the excursion?

As the name Full Paine suggests, this is a full-day excursion.  You will spend the day on the road or on the water, experiencing the best the park has to offer.

The entire experience lasts between 7 and 10 hours, depending on how long your group spends at each stop.  Your guide will keep an eye on the time to ensure you don’t miss the boat ride, as the schedule is very tight.

Before departure, you’ll receive a box lunch that you can enjoy at any point during the day, based on the itinerary.

Remember, your friendly guide will be there throughout the journey to answer any questions you may have about the park or the day’s route.
