Experience Camping in the Torres del Paine National Park

  • 7 mins

The Torres del Paine National Park is an experience that begins the moment you set foot in the region. Located two hours by road from the nearest airport in Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine requires more than one night to fully enjoy it. Therefore, the best option is to stay inside the national park, as a day trip from Puerto Natales can be exhausting considering the four hours of travel that it entails. For this and many other reasons, hikers from all over the world choose to experience Patagonia by camping.

Camping in the Torres del Paine National Park keeps you in constant contact with the surrounding nature, the sounds of the wind and the birds, the scent of the air that can only be breathed in this corner of the world, and all the natural wonders you can observe just by opening your tent.

At Las Torres Patagonia, we have a network of campsites, strategically located to receive you on every night of whichever circuit you choose to explore the national park. In this blog, we explain all the camping options, whether you prefer the fully- or semi-equipped format. No matter which one you choose, adventure is guaranteed here.

Fully- and Semi-Equipped Camping: Which best suits your adventure?

Let’s start with the most important distinction: what’s the difference between fully- and semi-equipped camping? Both experiences are designed for different types of campers: those who prefer to explore the park with the equipment they are familiar with; and those who want to travel light, carrying fewer items.

What does fully-equipped camping include? This is the ideal option for those who want all the necessary equipment waiting for them at each stop. This means fewer worries and less weight to carry on the long hikes through the Torres del Paine National Park.

With this service, you can stay in our elevated tents, supported by sturdy metal structures 1.60 meters (5.2 feet) above the ground. This ensures better insulation from the cold and humidity, and greater protection from any other natural phenomena you may encounter in the park. The tents can accommodate up to two people at a time.

The fully-equipped option includes the tent, sleeping bag, high-density foam sleeping pad, pillow and a welcome drink voucher for each sector. It is the ideal option for venturing through Patagonia without any worries and with the least possible weight.

The semi-equipped option also includes an elevated tent 1.60 meters (5.2 feet) high, with capacity for two people, as well as the high-density foam sleeping pad.

However, this option is designed for those who wish to travel with much of their own equipment, with which they already have experience and want to continue using on their Patagonian adventure.

Both alternatives are designed to facilitate your journey through Patagonia, whether you are doing the W Circuit, the O Circuit or simply staying in your favorite sector of the park.

In our campsites, you’ll find everything you need, from friendly service and food to that longed-for hot shower that will make all your tiredness disappear after a long day exploring the national park.

At Las Torres Patagonia, we also have a special offer for reservations in October and November: for the purchase of three nights, the fourth is completely free.

Tents are scattered across the grounds of Central Camping, the main base camp located near the Las Torres Welcome Center. The campsite serves as the starting point for the trek to Base Torres, with the famous granite towers visible in the distance.

Central Camping: The Start of the Most Important Trekking Circuits

Our Central Camping is the gateway to your adventure. Just a few meters from the Las Torres Welcome Center, this campsite offers you everything you need for a unique experience. We have recently-renovated bathrooms and a cafeteria, and our welcome center will supply you with anything you may have left at home that is needed on your expedition.

Central Camping is at the start of the park’s most important trekking trails, connecting you with destinations such as the Base Torres Viewpoint, Lake Nordenskjöld and the Ascencio Valley. This is a unique place to stay in a sector that is home to the granite columns that give the park its name.

Tents are dotted across the immense, grassy plain of the Serón sector in Torres del Paine. This campsite, the starting point of the O Circuit, is surrounded by a wide-open landscape, conveying a sense of adventure and solitude.

Serón Camping: The Gateway to the O Circuit

If you are taking on the most challenging circuit that Patagonia has to offer, Serón Camping will be the first chapter of this adventure. The first stop on the O Circuit is in this sector, a vast Patagonian plain that stretches into the horizon until disappearing among the mountains.

This campsite runs on 100% solar energy, making it a milestone of sustainable tourism in the Torres del Paine National Park. It has a dining room, bathrooms and a team of friendly administrators who will help you have an unforgettable experience on your first night of the famous O Circuit.

Hikers relax and share stories on the wooden deck of the cafeteria at Chileno Camping. The site acts as a busy hub for trekkers preparing for their final ascent to the Base Torres Viewpoint, surrounded by the native forest.

Chileno Camping: The Entranceway to the Base Torres Viewpoint

If you are looking to start your expedition to the Base Torres Viewpoint first thing in the morning, this sector is your ideal option. Located just a few meters from the lenga beech forest that covers the slopes ascending to the viewpoint, Chileno Camping holds an impressive mystique. Dozens of hikers gather here to prepare for their ascent, eating a snack before starting their journey, adjusting their clothing to the trail conditions or simply sharing experiences with those who are already returning.

The Chileno Sector, accompanied by the sounds of the river bathing its shores, is the perfect option for connecting with nature. It’s the last settlement before the Base Torres Viewpoint, leaving you just steps away from experiencing nature in all its splendor.

We have a new cafeteria, recently-inaugurated and equipped with everything you need to sweeten your day and warm your body from the Patagonian cold. You will also find bathrooms and a dining room with an exquisite menu to reward yourself after a long day conquering the Base Torres Viewpoint.

Cuernos Camping is a unique place. If you are doing the O Circuit, it will be one of your final stops before completing the journey. If you are doing the W Circuit, however, it will be one of your first encounters with the park’s natural wonders.

On arriving in the sector, you will be amazed at the turquoise waters of Lake Nordenskjöld bathing its shores.

Cuernos Camping has bathrooms available for guests, a dining room with cafeteria and exceptional viewpoints to sit and enjoy the waterfall, hanging glaciers and lake waters extending into the horizon.

Francés Camping: Home of Patagonia's Paradisiacal Valley

If there’s one place that fills hikers with expectations to rival those of the Base Torres Viewpoint, it’s the Francés Valley, located in the Francés Sector.

The campsite in this sector is located close to the impressive 360° panorama that can be found at its main viewpoint. Here, nature embraces you with its vistas, leaving you to enjoy all that it offers.

From here, you can contemplate the turquoise waters of Lake Nordenskjöld, Mount Paine Grande, Ferrier Lookout, Mount Tenerife, and the Chacabuco and Balmaceda mountain ranges. Save space on your camera, as you will certainly want to capture all these natural landmarks in photographs.

In this sector, you will probably be witness to the famous foehn winds, which appear as small waterspouts around the lake. This experience is complemented by the sounds of avalanches breaking off the glacier. This is a journey that you can discover with every one of your senses.

You will also find our recently-inaugurated cafeteria here, where you can stock up on drinks and snacks, and connect to our prepaid Wi-Fi. Our team of cordial administrators is also on hand to make your experience an exceptional one.
