Cuernos Sector: mountains, forests, and crystal blue waters
One of our favorite places inside Torres del Paine National Park is Cuernos Sector, which gets its name from the impressive mountains located to one side of this area. Each morning you will wake up to fantastic views of green forests and the flowing sound of a river. Here we will tell you all you need to know to enjoy an unforgettable experience in this place.
If there were a competition for the most impressive geological wonder in this national park, Los Cuernos and Las Torres del Paine would compete neck and neck. Both images are wonderful to have in your memory and photographs, and therefore you should consider visiting each one. But for now, we’re going to talk about Los Cuernos.
Where is Cuernos Sector?
Leaving Hotel Las Torres, you must head west, walking along the shores of Lake Nordenskjöld, whose naturally spectacular turquoise blue waters will accompany you during a large part of the journey. You will find incredible places to photograph as you admire the amazing landscapes and impressive view of this area from each one of its lookout points. During your hike, you’ll walk around the base of Mount Almirante Nieto, observing the glaciers that formed on this mountain range. After a few hours of walking, you will be able to see Los Cuernos. When you see them, you know you are close to your destination.
Walking at a steady pace, you should arrive at Cuernos Sector in approximately 4.5 hours (12.8 km/8 mi). If you do the reverse hike, that is, from west to east, and you decide to go from Francés when on the O Circuit, it will take you close to 2 hours to arrive. Although it’s only 3.2 km (2 mi), the hike is more strenuous, but arriving at Los Cuernos will be your grand prize.
