32 Years of Hotel Las Torres: A Look Back at the Milestones That Marked This Year

  • 9 mins

This Thursday, December 12, Hotel Las Torres celebrates 32 years of history. More than three decades since the beginning of a sustainable tourism concept, blending Patagonian tradition with the vision of a Croatian family. On this new anniversary of the hotel, we want to take a look back at the major milestones that defined our past year, a part of the ongoing story we're writing here, in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park.

Hotel Las Torres Rooms

Renovation of Our 74 Rooms

Our 2024-2025 season marked a new chapter in the history of our hotel with the unveiling of our 74 completely renovated rooms, now under a new concept: Contemporary Patagonia.
The work of architect Pedro Kovacic and interior designer Enrique Concha has redefined hospitality, where various elements evoke the local geography and Patagonian culture. A space where the main focus is the stunning views from your window.

Reconstruction of the Base Torres Trail

Progress on the Reconstruction of the Base Torres Trail

The new trail connecting to the Base Torres viewpoint continues to develop. Volunteers and park rangers alike are working tirelessly to advance this new route, which will offer an enhanced trekking experience with rock-free paths, gentler slopes, and panoramic views of the Ascencio River throughout the entire journey to the Chileno refuge.
Currently, the project is 94% complete, and its inauguration is expected in the summer of 2026.

10 Volunteers for 10 Days

In April of this year, 10 Americans passionate about voluntourism traveled to Chile to participate in the first edition of the "10 Volunteers for 10 Days" campaign. They learned all the techniques we're using to build a sustainable trail, contributing their efforts to this cause, and had the opportunity to enjoy various excursions during their stay. It was an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Las Torres Patagonia signed the Glasgow Declaration

Signing of the Glasgow Declaration

Las Torres Patagonia continued its commitment to sustainability and the future of our planet this year. In April, we signed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action and Tourism, a global pledge to address the impacts of climate change.
By signing this agreement, we committed to several actions, including halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions as soon as possible, before 2050; submitting climate action plans within 12 months (or updating existing plans) and putting them into practice; and aligning our plans with the five pathways of the Declaration (measurement, decarbonization, regeneration, collaboration, and financing) to accelerate and coordinate climate action in tourism.

backpack made from recycled materials in Patagonia

New Welcome Kit

We know that plastic waste is one of the major issues of the 21st century, which is why we’ve designed a new welcome kit, with a special focus on a backpack made from recycled materials.
Yes, our backpack, available to all hotel guests and trekking circuit participants, is made from PVC collected from campaigns of other companies. This allowed us to remove 15,000 square meters of plastic destined for landfills and transform it into the perfect accessory for your adventure through Torres del Paine National Park.

Guanaco Herd in Patagonia Chile

Massive Guanaco Herd in Las Torres Patagonia

This winter, a massive herd of guanacos surprised us at Las Torres Patagonia—a phenomenon that hadn’t been seen in over a decade.
The appearance of this guanaco herd is a sign that our management plan within the national park is on the right track, as it has allowed local wildlife to integrate actively into areas designated for biodiversity conservation. The proper delimitation of trails and the work of our park rangers foster a balanced relationship with nature.

Calafate Fest - Patagonia

Las Torres Patagonia Wins Calafate Fest

During the celebration of the latest edition of Calafate Fest, several exhibitors from the region’s gastronomy and cocktail scene showcased their skills in using the calafate berry in their creations, impressing judges with remarkable examples of Patagonian cuisine. Las Torres Patagonia participated alongside two representatives from the Francés and Central sector culinary teams, who impressed the judges and secured first place in the competition.

The Federation of Tourism Companies of Chile (Fedetur) recognized the country's top tourism initiatives. In this context, Las Torres Patagonia received the highest honor in the category of "Tourism Marketing Strategy of the Year" at the 2024 edition of these awards.
The campaign that earned this important recognition was “10 Volunteers for 10 Days,” which was received by our Commercial Manager, Juan López.
